Old town as the most important landmark of Br is specific for its position. Legend has it that the city’s ideal strategic position is exactly where it was built- at the bottom of maintain Rumija, protected by steep clifts near the spring of drinking water. It was called Antibareos (Greek),Antibarum( Roman), Antivari (Italian) and Bar (Slovenian), and life took place there for 2.500 years.
King Nikola’s castle and promenade are next thing on the list of places you must visit in Bar.
After the liberation of the city, Prince Nikola wished to have a castle on the site of the palace of the last Turkish lord of Bar. That said, in the most beautiful part of the city, in 1885, there was no castle that still adrons the promenade. Later, the Prince gave it to his daughter Zorka and son-in-low Petar Kradjordjevic. Villa Topolica is named after the birthplace of Karadjordjevic.
Inside the castle, which is today a museum, one can see a handful of historical exhibitions of former Montenegro, and in its surroundings enjoy the botanical garden that was conceived during the reign of king Nikola and preserved to this day.
