Nacionalni park Durmitor

Durmitoris declared as national park in 1958, and in 1980 it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. On the territory of 39,000 ha of protected natural zone, there are 48 mountain peaks at an altitude of 2,000 m and the highest peak – Bobotov kuk (2,523 m) and 18 mountain lakes. There are also 5 canyons here, among which the most famous is the canyon of the river Tara.

The famous Black Lake is the largest of the 18 Durmitor lakes, which are located at the ski center Zabljak, Montenegrins call it “mountain eyes”. In smaller villages on the territory of the park, one can find examples of original Montenegrin architecture in the form of national houses “savardaka”, cylindrical in shape with a thatched roof.
