Ulcinj

You can reach the Old Town of Ulcinj, surrounded by cyclopean walls, from the northeast or from the sea. Among several squares, the most interesting is the Slave Square, where pirates once brought and sold slaves. It is believed that the Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes also spent 5 years captured in Ulcinj. It is also believed that he wrote his famous work, Don Quixote, right here, and gave the girl the name Dulcine after the then name of the city, Dulcinium.

Ulcinj’s Velika plaza is the next stop in the tour of the most southern Montenegrin city. A pearl about 13 kilometers long, the finest sand is a real Mecca for kite surfers from all over the world. It stretches from Cape Đerana to the river Bojana, which at its confluence with the Adriatic Sea forms mouth of river Bojana, ideal for relaxing in fishing houses and enjoying the best fish specialties of local restaurants.
